Theta Women Committed to Spreading the Widest Influence for Good

Every year the Beta Pi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta participates in a variety of community service and fundraising events including Relay for Life, Pike Spike, Delta Sigma Pi Dirty Tug, Lambda Chi Pumpkin Smash, and Safe Halloween among others. We are proud to be active in our Greek community as well as in a variety of other activities on campus and in the local community.

Our national philanthropy is CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates. CASA began in 1990 by a Seattle judge concerned with making decisions about abused and neglected children's lives without sufficient information. He conceived the idea of using trained community volunteers to speak for the best interests of these children in court. This Seattle program was so successful that soon judges across the country began utilizing citizen advocates. In 1990, the U.S. Congress encouraged the expansion of CASA with passage of the Victims of Child Abuse Act. Today more than 900 CASA programs are in operation, with 70,000 women and men serving as CASA volunteers. For more information please click here.
Theta hosts a philanthropy event each semester to raise funding and awareness for CASA. KAT at Bat is a baseball tournament where groups of Thetas coach numerous teams comprised of members of the Greek community and East Lansing. Kicks for CASA is a soccer tournament coached by Thetas as well. These events are a fantastic way to bring together the group community and raise awareness for such an important foundation. There is profound success each year with these philanthropy events, all thanks to our supportive community!

A huge thank you to all of our past and present Philanthropy Chairs for all of the hard work in organizing Theta's Philanthropy events and being the voice for children who need it most.
